About Me

Rae Baker is an Atlanta-based cellist, certified P–12 music educator, and versatile performer dedicated to cultivating technical excellence and creative artistry in all musicians. Rae is currently completing a Master of Music in Cello Performance at Georgia State University, where she studies under Dr. Alexis Lee. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Columbus State University, having studied with Wendy Warner (a student of the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich). With over a decade of experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and improviser, Rae’s performance career is highly versatile, spanning classical repertoire, gospel, R&B, and jazz. She has performed on prestigious stages including Carnegie Hall, Atlanta Symphony Hall, and Spivey Hall, and works extensively as a studio musician, notably recording with the "Color of Noize Orchestra" (Jeezy) and contributing original music to the "Nanci the Great" documentary. As a music educator, Rae combines strong technical training with creative exploration to help students achieve success in auditions and find their unique artistic voice. She serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at GSU, providing instruction at the college level, and runs a robust private cello studio. Rae has instructed students in schools whose orchestras include participants in All-State, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Honor Orchestra programs. Rae is an active cello clinician for schools across the Atlanta area and has served on the faculty of the Georgia State Summer Music Institute and Camp Encore/Coda(Maine). She remains committed to music education through her membership in the American String Teachers Association (ASTA).
