My Guiding Principles
Teaching Philosophy
I view music education as more than the study of notes and rhythms it is a pathway to curiosity, confidence, and connection. My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that students thrive when they are supported, challenged, and encouraged to explore music as both an art form and a reflection of the world around them.
In my studio, I strive to create an inclusive and engaging environment where students build strong technical foundations while discovering their own creative voices. My lessons draw from diverse styles including: classical repertoire, jazz improvisation and film music helping students understand how music connects across cultures and time.
My approach is shaped by my own mentors and experiences at summer festivals and masterclasses with world-class artists. I encourage my students to seek similar opportunities through concerts, festivals, and collaborations that build both musicianship and confidence.
Because every student learns differently, I tailor my teaching to each individual. Whether through visual aids, storytelling, or hands-on activities, I want each learner to feel engaged and empowered to take ownership of their progress. I also emphasize transferable life skills, goal setting, time management, and resilience that support growth beyond the practice room.
Ultimately, my goal is to guide students toward a lifelong love of music and learning. Whether they pursue music professionally or personally, I hope they carry forward the curiosity, confidence, and connection that music brings into every part of life.
Student & Parent Reflections
"You'll get better, pure and simple."
Rae knows what she’s doing, so as long as you focus, listen, and practice, you’ll get good real quick. I used to struggle with confidence, but now when I play, I feel capable of so much - like I’ve unlocked new potential.

Thank you, Ms. Baker! You worked with us so efficiently and focused on exactly what needed improvement. You helped our section so much with bow speed and distribution and gave us great ideas for our personal practice.
